Care Guide

Wipe with a dry or very slightly damp cloth after use — do not soak or submerge. Avoid prolonged exposure to rain; if wet, pat dry and allow to air dry naturally away from heat. Condition the leather when it needs it, not on a fixed schedule — flex a base corner or the fold of the flap: if it feels stiffer than usual or looks flat in soft light, it's time. In regular use in a temperate climate, this is typically two to four times a year. Use a conditioner formulated for smooth leather: colourless, no silicone, no heavy wax — it should absorb into the grain rather than coat the surface. Store in the breathable dust bag provided, away from direct sunlight — never in a plastic bag, which traps moisture and can cause mould. The leather has been sealed to prevent colour transfer — do not use alcohol-based cleaners, which can strip the sealant.

Where is this made?

Every Orange Inca piece is designed in Australia and made in Peru — by cooperativas, family businesses, and small production centres that we know personally and return to. The makers are predominantly women. The processes are predominantly by hand.

What does "handmade" actually mean?

It means a person made it. Not a machine that requires a person nearby. The junco bags are woven row by row on simple frames. The frazadas are woven on traditional looms over days, sometimes weeks. The leather bags are stitched and finished by hand in a family workshop in Lima. Handmade at Orange Inca means the hands are genuinely involved — not as a marketing label but as the only way these things can be made.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Every hide is different. Natural grain, subtle texture variation, and minor marks from the animal's life are part of what makes leather a genuine natural material. Slight colour variation between pieces of the same colourway is normal — the leather takes dye according to its own grain. These are not flaws; they are the character of the hide.

Will it last?

Soft tumbled leather softens and gains character with use. Our leather products will soften slightly and develop a patina over time, which is by design: the products are built to look better in a year than they do today. Wipe with a dry cloth after use. Condition the leather when it needs it rather than on a fixed schedule — flex a base corner: if it feels stiffer than usual or looks flat in soft light, that’s the signal. The leather is sealed with a professional fixative to prevent colour transfer to clothes or skin.

What's your returns policy?

Every piece is made by hand and checked before it leaves us. If something arrives faulty or isn't as described, contact us within 14 days at returns@orangeinca.com and we'll make it right — refund, exchange, or repair.

We don't offer change-of-mind returns or exchanges. With handmade goods, each piece is unique; once it's been made for you, it can't simply be put back. We'd rather help you choose right from the start — if you have questions about sizing, colour, or whether something will work for you, ask before you buy.

EU customers: you have a 14-day cooling-off period in line with consumer protection regulations.

Yes. We ship worldwide from Sydney via Australia Post (standard) or DHL — you choose at checkout. Delivery times vary by destination.
