Our Materials
Baby Alpaca Wool
A fibre grade — typically 18 to 22 microns — taken from alpacas in the Peruvian highlands. Naturally hypoallergenic, lighter than cashmere by weight, and warm without bulk. The fibre is minimally processed: no lanolin to strip, no harsh chemical finishing.
Depending on the colourway, pieces are either left in their natural alpaca tone — Camel, Ivory, Light Grey, Brown — or dyed using traditional Andean methods with plant and mineral pigments.
What we make: Scarves, shawls, hats, mittens, knitwear, and coats.
Junco Reed
A coastal Peruvian reed — Juncus genus — harvested from the wetlands of northern Peru. Not a straw, not raffia. Stronger, denser, and more dye-receptive than raffia; it takes natural pigment evenly and holds colour over time.
Each bag is woven entirely by hand, one row at a time, by artisan communities north of Trujillo. The process takes several weeks per piece. No two are identical.
What we make: Handbags, totes, clutches, and crossbodies.
Toquilla
The fine palm fibre used in traditional Panama hats and, at the coastal cooperatives we work with in Peru, woven into bags using the same inherited technique. Lighter and more pliable than junco, with a tighter weave and a silkier hand. Toquilla has been declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Peru.
The Audrey is the only design in the Orange Inca collection made from toquilla — sourced from the same coastal cooperative as the junco range.
What we make: The Audrey and Audrey Mini.
Frazada — Handwoven Sheep Wool
Frazadas are handwoven Andean blankets, traditionally made from highland sheep wool by Aymara and Quechua communities. They were domestic objects before they became anything else — thick, colourful, made to last, and dyed with natural pigments on backstrap looms.
Orange Inca sources vintage frazadas and reconstructs them into bags, cushion covers, and accessories. Every piece is singular because the original frazada is singular. When it’s gone, that’s it.
What we make: Frazada handbags, cushion covers, home textiles, and frazada accessories.
Leather
Full-grain leather, professionally dyed and sealed. Soft enough to carry from the first day; the kind that softens further with use and develops a natural patina over time. Made by a family workshop in Lima — hand-stitched and hand-finished.
What we make: The Olivia Crossbody.
Every material is sourced directly from the artisans and producers who work with it. Designed in Australia, made in Peru.
