Care Guide

For small marks and light soiling, try spot cleaning first: use a slightly damp cloth to gently dab the area, then allow to dry naturally. Do not rub.

Small accessories — beanies, bucket hats, fingerless mittens, headbands: hand wash in cold water with a gentle wool wash (Eucalan or similar). Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring or twist. Lay flat on a clean towel and reshape while damp. Dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight.

Scarves and shawls: dry clean is recommended. If hand washing, use cold water only with minimal handling and lay flat immediately — do not agitate or leave bunched.

Garments and throws — sweaters, cardigans, coats, vests, alpaca throws: dry clean only. The weight of these pieces makes hand washing risky — even in cold water, felting or distortion can occur. Do not attempt to wash at home.

For all pieces: store folded, not hung — hanging stretches the fibres over time. If you notice any small pulls, use a fabric comb to gently tease them out rather than pulling.

Where is this made?

Every Orange Inca piece is designed in Australia and made in Peru — by cooperativas, family businesses, and small production centres that we know personally and return to. The makers are predominantly women. The processes are predominantly by hand.

What does "handmade" actually mean?

It means a person made it. Not a machine that requires a person nearby. The junco bags are woven row by row on simple frames. The frazadas are woven on traditional looms over days, sometimes weeks. The leather bags are stitched and finished by hand in a family workshop in Lima. Handmade at Orange Inca means the hands are genuinely involved — not as a marketing label but as the only way these things can be made.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Natural dyes produce slight variation in tone — two pieces of the same colourway may differ subtly. This is inherent to the dyeing process and applies across the range. With heavy wear in friction areas, slight pilling is possible on knitted pieces; use a fabric comb to gently remove it. These are the natural characteristics of an alpaca piece — not flaws.

Will it last?

Baby alpaca is one of the most durable natural fibres — it doesn't pill the way merino can, doesn't stretch out of shape, and retains its softness over years of wear. The natural dyes are stable and colourfast with proper care. With the right handling, an alpaca piece will look the same in ten years.

What's your returns policy?

Every piece is made by hand and checked before it leaves us. If something arrives faulty or isn't as described, contact us within 14 days at returns@orangeinca.com and we'll make it right — refund, exchange, or repair.

We don't offer change-of-mind returns or exchanges. With handmade goods, each piece is unique; once it's been made for you, it can't simply be put back. We'd rather help you choose right from the start — if you have questions about sizing, colour, or whether something will work for you, ask before you buy.

EU customers: you have a 14-day cooling-off period in line with consumer protection regulations.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship worldwide from Sydney via Australia Post (standard) or DHL — you choose at checkout. Delivery times vary by destination. Please note that import duties and taxes are the responsibility of the recipient and are not included in our prices. We're not able to predict what these will be — your local customs authority can advise before you order.
