Junco is a reed — not a straw, not raffia — that grows along the coastal wetlands of northern Peru. It's thin, fibrous, and considerably stronger than it looks. The artisans who weave with it have been working in this tradition for generations: sorting the raw reed by hand, dyeing it before the weaving begins, and building each bag structure from the base up.
The dyeing happens first. Reed is submerged in natural pigment baths before weaving starts — which is why the colour runs all the way through and doesn't fade at the edges the way printed or painted finishes do. The same colourway made in two different batches will carry subtle variations in tone. This is not inconsistency. It's the nature of the material.
The range spans the full spectrum of what junco can do. Compact crossbodies for daily movement. Generous statement totes for days when size matters. Sculptural clutches and evening bags where the tightness of the weave creates structure. A small number of statement silhouettes that sit somewhere between accessory and object.
All pieces are designed in Australia, handwoven on Peru's northern coast, and produced in limited runs. When a colourway or silhouette sells through, it may not be repeated in exactly the same form. That's not a marketing tactic — it's just how production at this scale works.
