Junco Reed

Junco is a reed — a coastal Peruvian plant stronger than raffia and more durable than it looks. Harvested from wetland margins, dyed before weaving, and worked by hand into bags that hold their colour and develop character with age. Everything in this collection is made from it. Designed in Australia, handwoven on Peru’s northern coast.

Junco is a reed — Juncus genus — that grows along the coastal wetlands of northern Peru. Stronger than raffia, finer than totora, and used for bag-making in the region for generations.

What makes junco distinctive: it holds natural dye exceptionally well, with pigment running through the structure of the reed rather than sitting on the surface. The colour doesn’t fade at the edges or wear off with use. Over time, it develops a warm patina — the kind of wear that makes a bag look more itself rather than less.

This collection brings together every Orange Inca piece made from junco reed: crossbodies, totes, clutches, coin purses, and evening bags across all silhouettes. If you’re browsing by material, this is the full picture.
