How to Care for Frazada Cushion Covers
Frazada cushion covers are made from handwoven Peruvian frazada textile — highland sheep wool coloured with natural plant and mineral dyes, with a cream fabric backing and a removable inner cushion. Because of the natural dyes and the cream backing, these covers should not be soaked or hand washed at home.

Always remove the insert first
Before cleaning the cover in any way, remove the cushion insert. Never attempt to clean the insert inside the cover.
Spot cleaning
For marks and everyday soiling, spot clean only. Dampen a clean, colourless cloth with cold water and press gently on the affected area. Blot — do not rub. Work from the edges of the mark inward. Allow to air dry completely before replacing the insert.
For more stubborn marks, a very small amount of pH-neutral wool soap on the cloth can help. Press gently, then blot with a clean damp cloth to remove any soap residue. Always air dry flat.
Do not soak or hand wash the cover. The cream backing fabric is at risk of colour transfer from the naturally-dyed frazada front when wet — this can stain the backing permanently.
Professional cleaning
For a thorough clean, take the cover to a specialist dry cleaner. Specify that it is handwoven wool with natural plant dyes and a cream fabric backing. Ask them to use pH-neutral products.
Day-to-day care
Plump and rotate cushions regularly. If the cover picks up general household dust, a light brush with a clean soft-bristle brush is usually enough. Air cushions occasionally in a dry, ventilated space.
Loose threads
If a thread comes loose, use a blunt pointed instrument to carefully push it back into the weave from the front. If the thread is too long to weave back in, tie a small secure knot close to the surface and trim the excess. Never pull loose threads.
Moths
Wool attracts clothes moths. Keep cushion covers in use and in well-lit, ventilated spaces. Store seasonal covers clean and dry with cedar or lavender nearby. Inspect periodically for signs of moth activity.
Storage
Store clean and dry in a breathable cotton bag. Do not store in sealed plastic bags. Use cedar blocks or lavender sachets nearby to deter moths.
